I woke up one fine morning and thought that I should take mum on a surprise getaway so I booked ourselves a Cathay Pacific ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Seoul. Yes, yes, yes, many have asked me why am I torturing mum with such a long day (almost 15 hours) when one could simply take the direct route and be in Seoul in less than half that time! We were going to make this into a day-out-at-the-airport-with-mum!
Having spent the night before at the nearby Marriott Putrajaya, it was a leisurely 25-minute taxi ride from the hotel to the airport. The airport was pretty quiet for a Monday morning when we got there but that was to be expected during the Muslim’s Ramadhan (or fasting) month. It was only 15-minutes from kerbside to the Malaysia Airlines’ First Class Lounge for breakfast!
Boarding was very uneventful. The flight was operated by Cathay Dragon, and we had the regional Business Class seats on the first flight from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong. It was perfectful adequate for a short 3.5 hours journey. Service was friendly and prompt, food was delicious!
The best part of the flight must have been the approach into HKG, by far, one of my favourite airports!
We spent an hour doing some duty free shopping before taking the train to the other side of the world (airport I meant) to get to The Pier First Class Lounge. As were third in line to get in, we saw the two in front of us were politely ushered away to the Business Class section which was a few gates further down the concourse. The Pier really did feel like home and I guess that must have Cathay’s aim in the first place. It was meant to be designed to resemble a homely living room. First stop was the dining room for some lunch before some shut-eye in one of their resting rooms. We had luxuriated in a nice hot shower before spending some time enjoying our afternoon coffee and cake in the living room.
Before too long, it was time for us to head off to our gate to board our next flight to Seoul!
