Jetstar to Launch Melbourne – Zhengzhou Route This Year

Date:

Zhengzhou is the capital of the Henan province in China. Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport is the 17th busiest airport in the People’s Republic of China. Zhengzhou is a major transport hub for central China, and is the economic and technological centre of Henan province.

Come December this year, Jetstar will start flying to Zhengzhou city from Melbourne. At present, there are no direct flights between the cities.

A quick search on Skyscanner shows that it will take about 16 hours to fly there with one stop in Guangzhou via China Southern.

Melbourne and Zhengzhou is about 8600km apart. The distance between Melbourne and Tokyo is about 8300km. A direct flight to Zhengzhou would means that the flight will take nearly 10 hours on Jetstar’s Boeing Dreamliner 787-8s.

The 335-seat Dreamliner is expected to start operating in December 2017 but no exact date has been mentioned yet. According to 9news,

Chinese airlines already link Melbourne with nine cities in mainland China, including Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu, and the country is Victoria’s number one international tourism market.

The state government says in the 12 months to March more than 570,000 Chinese tourists injected $2.6 billion into the Victorian economy.

Let’s hope this new route to China will be a successful one for Jetstar and Victoria’s economy.
