Although the 17-hour Perth to London will be Qantas’ first non-stop service to Europe come March 2018, but Melbourne will be the first to fly the flagship aircraft, Dreamliner B787-9, to Los Angeles from 15th December 2017. So if you cannot wait for another three more months to try out Qantas’ latest carrier from Perth to London, then you have to get on this.
Currently, Qantas employs the Airbus A380 from Melbourne to Los Angeles (LA) seven times a week, together with a B747 that also departs Melbourne on Monday and Wednesday. The new B787-9 is scheduled to fly six times a week replacing the current 747s. This will increase the flight frequency between Melbourne and LA from the current 9 to 13.
According to Boeing, the Dreamliner is more efficient than any other aircraft of the same size. It uses up to 20 percent less fuel and that translates to lower CO2 and NOx emissions. What is more important is the experience of a quieter cabin, even with a 65 percent larger window.
Qantas’ B787 will have the capacity to seat 236 passengers across three cabins – Business, Premium and Economy. The Business Suite will be similar to the current A330 and you will have the luxury to recline during take-off and landing – WOW!
