Hotel Review: Shangri-La Fijian Resort & Spa, Yanuca Island, Fiji

We took an impromptu holiday to Fiji just recently because we came across this totally irresistable deal for only A$800 per person which includes return economy flights from Sydney, 3 nights at this Shangri-La property, all meals and return transfers. Whilst the reviews on TripAdvisor aren’t all that fantastic, we went with an open mind and reduced expectations. We ended up having a very enjoyable holiday. Yes, the property was dated but it was well compensated by the ever friendly Fijian staff with their constant BULA greetings (it means Hello in Fijian) and the absolutely delicious cuisine served at all the restauarants.

Fiji had just reopened to tourism last December 2021 and ther eis no doubt that traffic has been picking up, escpecially from its main market, Australia. Almost the entire resort was occupied by Australians, many familiar faces from our flight too! There was a long queue upon our arrival so the entire check-in process took close to an hour but we were promptly escorted to our room and ready to begin our holiday!

Guests on Full Board packages are given a certain amount to spend on lunch and dinner, everyday, at any of their restauarants. We were lucky enough to have had enough to experience all of them. First stop was the beach bar for lunch!

There are several pools in the resort but the main pool at the Lagoon Wing where we stayed at is probably the biggest and busiest. As the resort occupies the entire island, there are many beaches to choose from too!

Dinner at Takali, the Asian restaurant, was our favourite. It certainly was very authentic, just like what you would taste in Singapore and Bangkok!

Breakfast is served at the main buffet restaurant (for families) and also at the Golden Cowrie (adults only). We chose to diner at the latter where it was quieter and definitely more relaxing with its gorgeous ocean views.

CHI Spa is reknowned for its specialty spa treatments at most Shangri-La properties worldwide and this property’s spa did not disappoint. It even offers a “Night At The Spa” package where one can actually stay in the spa suites overnight with meals served there! What an interesting concept!

The main buffet restaurant is the Lagoon Terrace. We have been to better buffets but for the price they charge here, I think it was pretty decent value! There is also a bar for sunset viewing, Bilo Bar.

To work off those extra calories, this resort has a very well equipped gym. Not to mention, bicycles for rent, mini golf and of couse a golf course!

Finally, dinner at the Golden Cowrie was an all-Italian affair. Delizioso!

All in all, it was a very relaxing couple of days in paradise. Would we return? Absolutely epecially if we saw such a deal again!
