Chicago is never short of luxury hotels but one of the best has to be The Waldorf Astoria. The hotel is located at the top of the “Magnificent Mile” in a quieter street yet not far from all the action of the area. Upon alighting from our limousine as soon as it pulls into the porte-cochere, we were greeted by two doormen who warmly welcomed us and assisted with our luggage. We were promptly escorted the very intimate lobby where we checked-in by a very welcoming agent.
As a Diamond Honors member, my app had shown that my booking was upgraded to a Junior Suite about 3 days prior to our arrival, thanks to Hilton Honors’ new upgrading policy. However, I found that we were further upgraded to a huge one bedroom suite the night before.
The hotel has a “No Tipping” policy and nothing could be faulted. Every member of staff that we were in contact with were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The hotel also offers a complimentary town car service, on a first come first served basis, to any destination within a one mile radius, every evening. This was especially useful to get to the area’s many excellent restaurants in the evening. It is however only a one way service, but we did not mind it at all, because that would give us the perfect excuse to burn some calories after dinner, walking back to the hotel.
Whilst we did not dine at the hotel’s main restauarnt, the Brasserie in the lobby serves great coffee and pastries. The perfect start to the morning especially with the $50 per room hotel credit offerred to all Diamond members.
