Review: Hotel Indigo Katong, Singapore

Nestled in one of Singapore’s more sought-after neighbourhood, Hotel Indigo, is located in the eastern part of Singapore – Katong. Conveniently located along the ‘shores’ of Singapore, Hotel Indigo is easily accessible via the East Coast Parkway (ECP) expressway. It is only a mere 15 mins by car from the Airport to the hotel.

Up until the late 1960s, the sea used to start at Katong. It was pushed further out to where the current East Coast Park is sitting now when the city state needed more land for residential use.

This neighbourhood is unique melting-pot of Singapore architecture with Chinese, Peranakan and English colonial styles. Some of the colonial buildings is now a designated national heritage conservation area. The conservation area consists of many shop houses which are refurnished into cafes as well as speciality shops.

It is no wonder that IHG chose this area to debut its Indigo brand in Singapore. Indigo is a brand that aims to “serve the curious – people who are inspired by new places, new people and new ideas.” No two Indigo properties are the same and they are all located in culturally diverse locations so that they can draw upon the story of the local area to inspire its designs and all aspects of its offerings.

I find the red metal basin familiar… it seems to be the one that was used by my grandmother.

See what’s holding up the basin? A manual sewing ‘machine’ and a potty as a bin. Clever.

Invite your friends over for a game of chess carrom!

…or maybe not. You might want to hit some jinx with the room slippers wooden clogs?

The rooftop infinity pool looks over the CBD and the sun-set is beautiful here when it’s not cloudy. Here, you will get a good view of the fireworks during Christmas, New Year and the National Day. Indigo is located adjacent to two shopping malls and is only minutes away from Changi International Airport making it an excellent alternative for the more boring airport hotel.

Flight Review: CX439 Airbus 321NEO New Business Class ICN-HKG

Flew Cathay Pacific's new business class on their A321Neo (adorable "mini racoon" nickname?). Huge upgrade from their older domestic seats! The wider, comfy seats impressed me. But the star was the recline. Unlike some airlines (think budget carriers), it wasn't just a footrest and lean back. This seat reclined like a rocking chair, distributing weight evenly and giving great back support – perfect for shorter flights!
