2018 Henley Passport Index Puts the Germans Back on Top

Date:

The 2018 Henley Passport Index , which is based on the number of countries a passport can enter without needing a visa, has ranked those holding a German passport as having the most powerful in the world.

According to Henley’s website, a German passport holder is able to gain visa-free entry to 177 countries from 176 last year. The Singapore passport follows closely behind at 176.

So what is that ONE country difference that Germany has an edge over Singapore? The answer is Timor Leste.

Timor-Leste, or East Timor, a Southeast Asian nation occupying half the island of Timor, is ringed by coral reefs teeming with marine life. Landmarks in the capital, Dili, speak to the country's struggles for independence from Portugal in 1975 and then Indonesia in 2002. The iconic 27m-tall Cristo Rei de Dili statue sits on a hilltop high over the city, with sweeping views of the surrounding bay.
