Singapore Changi Airport, the indisputable best airport airport in the world has lost 286 bags. A baggage handler working at Changi Airport was caught removing baggage tag(s) and replacing it with a tag from another bag.
How did that happen?
Apparently, an alleged baggage handler, Mr Tay Boon Kwee, was caught swopping baggage tags at Changi Airport from November last year to February this year.
This resulted in passengers arriving at their destination getting a shock of their life when the bag at the carousel does not belong to them (but the tag does)!
The first luggage Tay tempered with was a bag bound for Malaysia but it was unclear where the bag is now. It was reported that other affected bags were originally bound for places like Hong Kong, Manila, London and Perth.
Tay is now being charged with 286 counts of mischief. No clear intentions for his misconduct has been established so far but Tay indicated he will plead guilty to the charges.
Responding to queries, Changi Airport said this was an isolated case of mischief and there had been no breach of aviation security at the Changi aerodrome.
Its spokesman added: ” Nonetheless, we have enhanced access control as well as the CCTV coverage in the baggage-handling area. Patrols have also been stepped up.”
